Railways
On track for increased onboard revenues, better profits and improved service.
Passenger rail is seeing increasing impetus to implement onboard retail solutions for a number of reasons:-

- Low cost airlines often virtually give away tickets and charge for ancillary aspects to supplement the difference. This is forcing rail operators to look at similar models which look to generate revenue through things other than core ticket sales. Retailing onboard is just such a channel.
- Recognition that the onboard retailing experience can be a key customer service differentiator between competitive forms of transport. There are many routes where there is little difference in terms of time and often cost between rail, air and road travel, so providing an excellent customer service focused retail experience can mean the difference for many passengers.
- Rail operators have huge amounts of scope for increasing the profitability of their routes. With more stowage space, less weight restrictions and more opportunities to top up en route, rail operators are realising that their onboard retailing offering can be both a highly profitable operation as well as a key service differentiator between competitive forms of transport.
- The control systems that are established as a result of implementing the Onboard Retail Solutions technology can often save rail operators as much money as they can help generate. Whilst most organisations trust their crew implicitly a system that helps control shrinkage as a result is useful.
